Twists

I love twists! I think they look so pretty and they make a nice change from the usual plaits. I also love the fact that the change A's face so dramatically because they make her hair shrink so much. Her hair when stretched out is half way down her back, but when it is twisted, the twists sit just above her shoulders!!

Unfortunately, twists are not great for swimming because they are not secured at the end. Normal swimming with a cap might be ok, but my A does diving! One dive from even the lowest board untwists the hair immediately! Do not make the mistake I did one weekend of spending all Sunday twisting hair only to have it untwist in a matter of minutes the next day!

Consequently, A doesn't get her hair twisted that often. However, when it comes to school picture time, I love the twists and I love the twist out even more!

Getting creative with Cornrows

After 8 years, I think I can finally say that I have cracked Cornrows! I know perfectly well that my technique isn't "proper" but it works for me and I think the results are pretty good :) The fact that I am a perfectionist goes a long way to ensuring a nice result. Good part lines are essential for a neat style :)

What do you think? A loved this style and I'll definitely be doing it again.

Purple Extensions

For her 7th birthday, A requested extensions. When we went to the shop, she saw PURPLE!!! Obviously, because I am the best mummy in the entire world, I said yes, and so she became the proud owner of purple hair for the month of her birthday!

If you could have coloured extensions, what colour would you get?

Where it all began!

When A was about 14 months old, her hair had finally grown enough for me to be able to do something with it, other than brush it into a cute little afro.

Being the wriggly 14 month old that she was, the only way I could get her to sit still for any length of time was in the bath! So I used to climb into the bath with her, amongst the dozens of plastic bath toys and cups (and bubbles of course!) and do her hair as quickly as possible!

At that stage in my "Curly Understanding" I didn't know much about curly hair and hydrating and the huge amount of conditioner required to keep her hair healthy, but luckily I learnt quickly and asked for help!

I started off using these products ....

... which I would highly recommend for babies and toddler, especially the creme which smells lovely :)

Curly Care

Hi! My model for this Blog is my daughter A. She has the most AMAZING curly hair in the world, and a lot of it! For those of you that know anything about curly hair, she has a combination of 3c / 4a hair, and it looks something like this ....

Ahhh ... my pretty lady! So that is her natural hair and whilst it looks gorgeous when it is curly, by the end of the day, it's a bit of a mess! So most of the time, her hair is braided or twisted to keep it tangle free. A is a big swimmer and is in the pool at least three times a week, so a lot of her styles need to be suitable for the water.

I will endeavour to upload either a video or pictures of A's hairstyles each time I do one! I hope you enjoy and get some inspiration for your own or your child's hair!

Feel free to comment (be nice please!) on any hair styles you particularly like!
